The Pleasant Valley School District learned Wednesday afternoon that a student at the high school has tested positive for COVID-19. The student has not been in the high school since Friday.
“We are following our Health and Safety Plan and taking all the necessary safety precautions,” Superintendent Lee Lesisko said in a statement.
The state Department of Health has been contacted and anyone who has been in close contact with the student has been notified.
The high school will continue to operate as normal in the hybrid schedule with classes in-person tomorrow.
Lesisko said the school district will continue to be transparent with the community with notification when there is a confirmed positive case of COVID-19.
The rate of infection in Monroe County for the week of Oct. 30 through Nov. 5 was 96.8 people per 100,000 people, according to the state Department of Health. This is an increase over the prior week from Oct. 23 to the 29 when the incidence rate was 44.8 people per 100,000. The positivity rate also increased from 5.5 % to 8.2%. Increases are being reported statewide.
The next release of data is on Friday.
According to the state Department of Education, school districts are encouraged to operate with a blended (hybrid) model or in full remote (online) instruction if the incidence rate is greater than 10 people per 100,000 and less than or equal to 100 people per 100,000, or the positivity rate is 5% to less than 10%. This indicates a moderate level of transmission of the virus in the community.
