Police report on Monroe County incidents
State police at Stroudsburg report on the following:
• Over $8,000 worth of items were stolen from a Monroe County property.
Police said a residence along Mount Tom Road in Smithfield Township, was entered between 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 17 and 1:41 a.m. on Oct. 18. Taken were two purses and various jewelry and other items with an estimated value of $8,970.
• Police said a 37-year-old Stroudsburg man was found to be in possession of a prohibited offensive weapon after a traffic stop they made at 3:18 p.m. Sept. 29 at the intersection of Neola and Pensyl roads Hamilton Township.
Police said the man was stopped for a Motor Vehicle Code violation he committed while driving a 2002 Nissan Sentra, after which time police found him to be in possession of the weapon and to be under the influence of a controlled substance and in possession of drugs and related paraphernalia.
• Police are investigating a burglary that was reported to them at 4:29 p.m. Oct. 10.
The victim is a 42-year-old Albrightsville woman who reported the burglary took place along Lower Swiftwater Road in Paradise Township. Police did not released any other details of the incident.
• A vehicle stop in Monroe County led to the driver be cited for a firearms charge.
Police said troopers stopped a 2004 Ford Escape on Sept. 6 at 8:46 p.m. along Route 611 at Turtle Walk Lane, in Hamilton Township. A further investigation found the driver, John Arana, 29, of Henryville, in possession of a prohibitive offensive weapon - brass knuckles. Charges were filed.
• A theft by deception case involving a Phillipsburg, New Jersey, woman was reported.
Police said the 74-year-old woman allowed someone to sell her belongings at a flea market. They said the person failed to return money and/or unsold items to the woman.
The incident happened along Route 115 in Hamilton Township and involved a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe, police said.
