ADVICE FOR BUSINESSES

Know what you want, change what you're doing to get it

As entrepreneurs, it's essential to utilize social media in order to help businesses establish meaningful relationships with customers. That strategy works well for Conrad Flynn, who served as the keynote speaker at the 64th Annual Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce and TIDE Dinner held Wednesday at the Mountain Valley Golf Club in Barnesville.Flynn, marketing consultant and chief strategist of Concur New Media, discussed entrepreneurship, which he said is more than a lifestyle; it's an attitude. There's a lot of hard work that goes on behind the scenes, he said.He said he serves entrepreneurs in his business, and added, "I learned that I thought a little differently than most people."Flynn explained an acronym he developed known as KFC, which stands for Know What You Want, Find Out What You're Getting, and Change What You're Doing Until You Get What You Want.To be a really great entrepreneur, Flynn said one really only has two jobs: To learn as quickly as one can what is the most valuable thing they can help someone else with, and to deliver that thing as much as possible.Flynn said he believes there are three things that hold back small businesses: The lack of a clear position or a clear offer, no ownership of lead flow, and a lack of follow-up.He said lead flow are the people businesses should be making those interactions with, as it's their priority to talk to those people often. As for the lack of follow-up, Flynn said it's important for businesspeople to reach out and initiate the conversations they need to be having, and reconsider how they're talking to people.Essentially, Flynn said it's about "building relationships and talking with the people you really help," and "consistently engaging people."
