Palmerton man admits to drug dealing charge

A Palmerton man pleaded guilty in Carbon County court on Thursday to a drug-dealing charge and was sentenced to a prison term.

Lucas Daniel Boyd, 22, pleaded to one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, methamphetamine, before Judge Steven R. Serfass.

Boyd was arrested on Aug. 13 by state police at Lehighton along Mahoning Mountain Road in Mahoning Township. Troopers made a vehicle stop and found residue from meth in the vehicle along with a scale and a ledger book listing the names of people involved in drug sales and purchases.

Attorney Matthew J. Mottola of the public defender’s office said the count is his client’s first adult arrest, although he has a juvenile conviction.

Serfass sentenced him to serve nine to one day less 24 months in the county prison, to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use, supply a DNA sample, render 100 hours of community service when paroled, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.

Boyd entered his plea via video conference from the county prison, where he is an inmate on the charges.

He was given credit for 74 days already served.
