Carbon man admits riding bicycle under influence

A Carbon County man admitted on Tuesday in the county court to riding a bicycle while under the influence of alcohol.

Joshua Beury, 39, of Nesquehoning, pleaded to one count of driving under the influence for an incident on Nov. 24, 2019. Nesquehoning police observed Beury riding a mountain bike along West Catawissa Street with no lighting on it. Police stopped him and determined he was under the influence of alcohol. He refused a test.

In a plea bargain with the district attorney’s office, the refusal was deleted from the original charge, sparing Beury possible jail time.

Judge Steven R. Serfass accepted the plea and placed Beury on probation for six months and ordered he pay a fine of $300, render 25 hours of community service, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.
