Carbon County commissioners

The Carbon County Commissioners, on Thursday, acted on the following items:

• Approved awarding the contract for the Community Development Block Grant bid opening on Sept. 24 for Jim Thorpe’s water/sewer improvements along Church Alley from Pine Avenue to Packer Hill Avenue. The contract goes to Pioneer Construction Co. Inc. of Honesdale, which submitted a bid of $681,083.

• Approved an amendment to an agreement dated July 20, 2011, with Global Tel*Link Corp. of Fall Church, Virginia, to upgrade the Jailhouse Management computer system and extend the current inmate telephone service contract. The amendment extends the contract for an additional five years at no cost to the county.

• Approved revised bylaws and an intergovernmental agreement for Carbon County’s participation in the Prison Inmate Medical Cost Containment Program.

• Approved an acknowledgment of a notification from Diligent Fire Company 3 advising the county that the monthly rental amount for office space for District Judge Eric Schrantz’s office at 340 Center Ave., Jim Thorpe, will be increased to $1,800 per month, effective Dec. 5. This is a $100 a month increase.

• Approved a lease agreement with Palmerton for office space at 401 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, on the third floor for the Area Agency on Aging office; as well as office space on the second floor of the building for District Judge William Kissner’s office. The term of each agreement is from Nov. 1 through Oct. 25, 2025. Each agreement will have an annual rental amount of $29,872.50.
