Smoke testing of sanitary sewer lines to take place Monday in Palmerton

The Borough of Palmerton, in cooperation with the PA Rural Water Association, will be conducting smoke testing of the sanitary sewer lines in areas north of Columbia Avenue between Third Street and Fifth Street on Monday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., various places and times.

Smoke should not enter premises unless a leak is present. This smoke is nontoxic, noncorrosive and will not leave an odor or a stain.

If smoke enters a building, it will soon dissipate. Opening doors and windows will help vent it outside.

Any smoke entering a building should be reported to the workers conducting the test, or by calling 610-826-2505.

All smoke testing will be conducted on private property.

However, workers will be required to access private property as some manholes, sewer lines and laterals are located there.

The borough asks to keep pets controlled during the few days that workers are in their areas.

Avoid any unnecessary exposure to the smoke. It is harmless, but all smoke is irritating to the nasal passages.

The smoke will not harm humans or animals, it will not leave a stain or smell.

Any irritation caused by smoke is temporary, and quickly disappears after exposure has ceased.

Anyone with questions or concerns may contact the borough office at 610-826-2505 during normal business hours.
