The Pennsylvania Department of Health Thursday confirmed that there were 1,598 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 177,520.
Allegheny is reporting an increase of 117 cases, Philadelphia is reporting an increase of 163 cases and Westmoreland is reporting an increase of 135 cases.
There are 8,432 total deaths attributed to COVID-19, an increase of 21 new deaths reported.
In nursing and personal care homes, there are 24,213 resident cases of COVID-19, and 5,332 cases among employees, for a total of 29,545 at 1,014 distinct facilities in 61 counties. Out of our total deaths, 5,585 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.
Approximately 11,516 of our total cases are among health care workers.
Levine said more people are getting tested, nearly 30,000 tests a day. There are more cases, and the hospitalization rate has doubled in the last month, Levine said. Carbon County is reporting 526 cases, an increase of five new cases. Deaths attributed to COVID-19 remain at 29. Lehigh County is reporting 6,053 cases, an increase of 30. Deaths attributed to COVID-19 are a total of 361. Luzerne County reported an increase of 54 cases, bringing the total to 4,450. Deaths remain at 190. Monroe County has five new cases, bringing the total to 1,898, with 134 deaths. Northampton County has 4,929 cases, an increase of 24 cases. There are 309 deaths. Schuylkill County has 1,495 cases, an increase of 38. One additional death was reported for a total of 68 deaths.
