A fifth case of COVID-19 at Pleasant Valley
Pleasant Valley School District reported its fifth COVID-19 case in the district on Wednesday. This time, the person is a staff member at the intermediate school.
Superintendent Lee Lesisko said, “We had a conversation with the PA Department of Health regarding this case. The individual who tested positive was not in school when the symptoms occurred. We continue to follow our safety plan and guidance from PA Department of Health.”
The last time the person was in the school was on Friday. Since that time, the school has been disinfected, and will remain open.
The prior COVID-19 cases include two teachers at the high school, a Monroe Career and Technical Institute teacher that taught a class at the high school, and a child at the elementary school. The high school is closed until Oct. 13 due to the outbreak. The elementary school will reopen today for students whose last names start with L-Z. The beginning of the alpabet will return Oct. 13.
Classes were moved completely online during the closure.
According to the Center for Disease Prevention and Control, symptoms of COVID-19 include a fever or chills, cough, fatigue, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, muscle or body aches, headache, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, and congestion or runny nose. Symptoms may appear two to 14 days after exposure to the virus. Emergency symptoms include: trouble breathing, confusion, bluish lips or face, persistent pain or pressure in the chest, and an inability to wake or stay awake. Go to the hospital if severe symptoms appear.
