The Northwestern boys earned a critical set of victories in their quest for a Colonial League title on Tuesday.

In other action, Abbey McGinley registered her 1,000th career dig in Jim Thorpe’s volleyball win.

Palmerton-Southern Lehigh

The Northwestern boys earned a sweep in Colonial League action at Palmerton.

The Tigers (13-1) finished 3-0 on the day, edging previously unbeaten Southern Lehigh 27-28 and posting 15-50 victories over both Catasauqua and Salisbury. The league standings have the Tigers ahead of the Spartans based on winning percentage with one week remaining in the regular season.

The foursome of Matt Santana, Sam Bower, Cole Chukoskie and Nate Vincent finished third, fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, for Northwestern to offset Southern Lehigh’s Alexander Kane (first) and Dominik Lisicky (second) taking the top two spots. The Tigers also got a 10th-place finish from RJ Zack.

The Palmerton boys and Northwestern girls both posted 2-1 marks.

Natalie Mosier won the girls meet with a time of 19:54 for the Bombers, who went 1-2. The Tigers’ Angelina Klein wasn’t far behind, finishing fourth.

The Bombers’ Owen Hibell posted a team-best eighth in the boys’ meet, while Northern Lehigh’s Jared Thomason was 12th.

Pen Argyl-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe cruised to a 5-0 win over Pen Argyl.

Christy McLean, Gabby Nunez and Trista Gehris swept singles play for the Olympians, who finished the regular season 8-4 in head coach Norb Lienhard’s final campaign.

The teams of Tara McLean and Sophia Samoleski, and Kaylinn Trine and Hailey Trine, posted doubles wins for Thorpe, which will now prepare for districts.

Tamaqua-Lehighton

Ian Davis’ two goals sparked Tamaqua to a 4-1 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.

Tyler Steigerwalt had a goal and three assists for the Blue Raiders, while Luke Verta also added a score. Mike Shlanta was credited with an assist as well.

Carter Strauss recorded the Indians’ goal on an assist from Matt Sofranko.

John Ulicny grabbed five saves for the Blue Raiders.

Pine Grove-Jim Thorpe

Chris Condly’s goal lifted Jim Thorpe to a 1-0 Schuylkill League win over Pine Grove.

The Olympians’ Jack Morris had the assist. Jacob Geiser finished with seven saves to earn the shutout.

Salisbury-Northwestern

Colin Coffield’s two goals and one assist highlighted Northwestern’s 6-0 Colonial League shutout win over Salisbury.

Mason Brensinger also had two goals for the Tigers, while Seth Brady and Cayden Fitch each had one.

Brandon Smeltz, Lucas van Lierop, Jared Wallender, Ryan Baker and Dart Delilio all recorded assists in the win.

Catasauqua-No. Lehigh

Catasauqua edged Northern Lehigh 2-1 in a Colonial League contest.

Derek Troxell opened the scoring in the second half for the Roughies before Mason Forstoffer added the second goal.

Grant Olewine scored in the second half for the Bulldogs.

North Schuylkill-Weatherly

Two second-half goals helped North Schuylkill pull out a 3-1 win over Weatherly in Schuylkill League play.

Tommy Cuthie snapped a 1-1 tie with his second goal of the game for the Spartans. Cuthie also opened the scoring for North Schuylkill. Ayden Balicki set the final tally, while Dylan Phillips stopped 10 shots.

Tanner Hinkle tied it for the Wreckers early in the second half. Frankie Willis made 16 saves for Weatherly.

GIRLS SOCCER

Tamaqua-North Schuylkill

McKenna Meckes’ first-half goal was all Tamaqua needed to post a 1-0 Schuylkill League win over North Schuylkill.

Sophia Boyle and Maura Walker were both credited with assists. The Blue Raiders held a 21-3 edge in shots, and had a 10-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Zoe Seltzer finished with three saves for Tamaqua (5-7).

Northwestern-Salisbury

Northwestern made a first-half goal stand up in a 1-0 Colonial League win over Salisbury.

Kylie Zentz tallied the game’s only goal for the Tigers, who improved to 9-2-1 overall and 7-0 in the league.

No. Lehigh-Catasauqua

Shaina Mazzocca’s hat trick powered Northern Lehigh to a 3-2 Colonial League win over Catasauqua.

The Bulldogs, who are now 3-2-2, received nine saves from keeper Erica Detweiler.

Palmerton-Palisades

Palmerton and Palisades ended in a 1-1 Colonial League tie.

Gianna Kintz recorded the Bombers’ lone goal, while Carissa Fallon provided an assist.

The Pirates’ lone goal came from Sydney Odle.

VOLLEYBALL

Lourdes-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe swept past Lourdes 25-7, 25-12, 25-5.

Brandy Montemuro had eight aces and dished out six assists to go along with five kills and three digs. Abbey McGinley had 12 digs for the Olympians - including the 1,000th of her career - and two aces. Andi Hoherchak added 13 assists, three aces and five digs.

Tamaqua-Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain cruised past Tamaqua 25-7, 25-8, 25-17 in a Schuylkill League match.

Madison Baddick had two digs, two kills and one ace for the Blue Raiders.

Lehighton-Pottsville

Pottsville swept Lehighton 25-4, 25-10, 25-23 in a Schuylkill League match.

Alexis Solomon had six blocks and three kills for the Indians. Megan Aaron added three kills, one dig and one ace, while Mia Snyder tallied 12 assists and three aces.

N. Schuylkill-Panther Vy.

Panther Valley earned a hard-fought 25-21, 25-18, 25-21 Schuylkill League win over North Schuylkill.

Erika Dubosky finished with 13 kills and four assists for the Panthers, while Alexis Cooper added 13 digs.

Madison Heckman recorded 15 assists for PV.

Northwestern-Catasauqua

Northwestern came away with a 25-1, 25-12, 25-12 Colonial League win over Catasauqua.

FIELD HOCKEY

Northwestern-Lehighton

Five different players scored as Northwestern knocked off Lehighton, 5-1.

Brynn Balliet, Claire Costa, Greenleigh McGehee, Reagan Hernandez and Lauren Schellhamer all scored for the Tigers, while Charlotte Horn was credited with two assists.

Tess Ledeboer also finished with an assist for Northwestern (9-3).
