Lehighton will use grant money to enhance its downtown parks.
Borough council unanimously agreed on Monday to adopt a resolution request for grant funding through the Greenways, Trails and Recreation program in the amount of $250,000.In a related matter, council on Monday approved the funding commitment letter in the amount of $18,000, and the letter supporting the project.The funds are for upper borough park improvements.Council in December approved the Department of Community & Economic Development Multimodal Transportation Fund grant contract.The $245,000 grant, with a $105,000 cash match from the borough, is in the total amount of $350,000, and is to make pedestrian improvements to the borough's lower park.The grants will be used for upgrades such as sidewalk repairs, walkway upgrades, lighting, fountain repairs, ADA accessibility and landscaping.
