A Towamensing Township family has been displaced after a swift-moving fire destroyed their ranch style home Tuesday night.

The fire was reported at 7 p.m. at 850 James St. just off Stagecoach Road, according to Towamensing Township Fire Chief Wayne Knirnschild.Upon arrival, Knirnschild said there was fire on the rear deck up the wall. The roof was on fire right at the pellet stove connection through the roof.Knirnschild said the home sustained significant damage, particularly to the kitchen and roof structure, as the fire got up in between the attic and the roof structure, and burned above the kitchen.The owners were home at the time of the fire, but no injuries were sustained, Knirnschild said. They are staying up the street with relatives, he said.Knirnschild said firefighters were able to rescue six cats from the home.He said the fire started in a wood pellet stove and quickly spread, as firefighters were hampered by high winds and frigid temperatures.It took firefighters about 20 minutes to knock down the flames, Knirnschild said.He said the Franklin Township Fire Company and Polk Township Fire Company also assisted at the scene.
