New York driver cited after crash

A New York state driver was cited following a crash along Interstate 81 in Frailey Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said Oliver Rutaramirwa, 36, of Syracuse, was driving a 2001 Dodge Caravan southbound about 12:49 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 12, when he fell asleep at the wheel. The van left the road and entered the grass median. The undercarriage made impact with a ditch while the van continued through the median. The van then entered the northbound lane where it came to rest.Rutaramirwa and five passengers, all from Syracuse, were not injured. Troopers said he was cited for careless driving.Troopers also reported on a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 9:20 p.m. on Sunday along SR924 in East Union Township. Troopers said Denise A. Allen-Puhl, 41, of Hazleton, was driving a 2003 Saab 93 southbound when he swerved to avoid an animal on the road. The car left the road and struck a pole along the west berm.Allen-Puhl was not injured.
