Jed W. Dubuc, 24, of 3 Lakewood Ave., Barnesville, remains in the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville, following his arraignment Tuesday night on attempted homicide charges stemming from an incident in Mahanoy City.

He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge David J. Rossi, Tremont, on two counts of attempted criminal homicide, four counts of aggravated assault, six counts of simple assault, two counts each of recklessly endangering another person and terroristic threats and one count each of possessing instruments of crime, crimes committed with firearms, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia, and incarcerated in lieu of $75,000 bail.Mahanoy City police patrolman Thomas J. Rentschler filed the charges after taking Dubuc into custody following an incident that began about 9:30 p.m. at a home at 1326 E. Centre St.According to a criminal complaint filed by Rentschler, he was dispatched to the dispute and was met at the home by a "frantic" woman. She was attempting to gather the children in the house in the living room, and told police Dubuc was upstairs with a gun.Rentschler ordered her and the children to get out of the house and go up the street to safe place. He called for backup.Rentschler approached the staircase and took a position of cover when he saw a white male walk past the upstairs landing. Rentschler announced police presence and ordered the man to show him his hands, which he had in his shorts. The man, identified as Dubuc, came to the top of the staircase, lifted his shirt and attempted to remove a black and silver handgun from his waistband.Rentschler drew his weapon, shouting multiple commands at Dubuc to raise his hands. After a brief pause, Dubuc raised his hands and was ordered to turn around. As Rentschler went up the stairs, Dubuc turned back around and attempted to come down the stairs, ignoring Rentschler's commands to stop and raise his hands.Dubuc sat down on the stairs, ignoring commands to turn around. Rentschler grabbed Dubuc by the shirt and pulled him down the stairs to the living room, where he took him into custody.Dubuc was found to have a loaded Ruger 9 mm handgun in his waistband. The gun was secured, and Dubuc placed into a police cruiser by patrolman Jonathan McHugh and Mahanoy Township police officers. After checking the house for any other possible dangers, the woman and the three children were allowed back in.Later, she came to the police station and gave a statement. She told police her 6-year-old daughter was upstairs in the shower and Dubuc had his cellphone charging in the hallway. The woman saw a message Dubuc was sending about buying pills because he was "dope sick and puking all morning."She took the phone into the kitchen and confronted Dubuc, telling him to get out.Dubuc started crying, saying "don't do this to me."Her 10-year-old daughter came into the room and said the 6-year-old needed her in the bathroom. The victim went upstairs to hand her daughter the shampoo, and got Dubuc's laundry out, threw it at him and again told him to leave.Dubuc refused, and started crying again. She followed Dubuc into her bedroom, asking him to leave. He grabbed her by the throat, leaving scratches and red marks. He started choking her and threw her against closet doors, breaking them. He punched the wall four or five times, damaging it.Dubuc then got the gun from a nightstand, saying he was going to kill himself. He grabbed the woman and held the gun to her head. The 6-year-old walked into the room, and Dubuc pointed the gun at her and told her to get out. He told the child to stop crying, pointing the gun at the woman again and telling the child he would shoot her mother if she didn't stop crying. The woman broke free when Dubuc put down the gun. She grabbed her daughter and they hid in the bathroom, where another daughter was showering. After getting the child out of the shower and dressed, they ventured out and saw Dubuc lying on the bed, holding the gun. One of the woman's daughters called 911, and they ran downstairs to her son, who was outside. Then police arrived.A search of the house turned up a small blue plastic bag containing some type of residue.
