The September meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health took place at the Tamaqua Municipal Building with Earl Boettger, Christine Zizelmann R.N., Shirley Becker, health officer Judith Hadesty R.N. and enforcement officer Matthew Myers in attendance.Myers reported receiving 45 complaints concerning high grass during August, with 36 cases being resolved. Other complaints during the month included 11 buildings deemed unfit for human occupancy, with one resolved, one resolved animal waste case, and 15 trash complaints with 14 resolved.There were no cases of reportable diseases for the month.The board meets the first Wednesday of each month, at 10 a.m., in the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 E. Broad St., Tamaqua.Flu clinicThe Tamaqua Salvation Army will host a flu clinic on Sept. 23. The clinic is being presented as part of Rite Aid's "wellness program" and will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.No appointments are necessary.The Salvation Army is located at 105 W. Broad St.Community TheatreThe Tamaqua Area Community Theatre is looking for volunteers to help with the next performance - "CSI Neverland," which will be presented on Oct. 16 and 17.Help is needed with hair and makeup, costuming, stage crew and set construction.Anyone interested may call 570-668-1192 for more information.St. Peter's UnionThis Sunday's 9 a.m. service in St. Peter's Union Church in Mantzville will include the Festival of Home Harvest and Joyous Noise and Love offerings. Sunday school will be held at 10:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, the Cub Scouts will meet at 5 p.m. and the Girl Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.Activities for next week include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., Women of St. Peter's will meet at 7:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Thrivent meeting at 7 p.m.; Thursday, Confirmation class meets at 6 p.m., cherub choir meets at 6:30 p.m., junior choir rehearses at 7 p.m., senior choir meets at 7:30 p.m.A "Blessing of the Animals" outdoor service will be held at 9 a.m. Sept. 20. All animals must be leashed or in crates. The public is welcome to attend. A special remembrance for the departed will be included.Zion LewistownPastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Church of the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.Bible study sessions are held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursdays.The Consistory will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 17.
