Morgan's Miracle Heart, a Day of Congenital Heart Defect Awareness will be held Saturday at the Lehigh & Lausanne Volunteer Fire Company. The event is hosted by 16-year-old Morgan Mengle, a Weatherly Area junior living with CHD, as part of her graduation project. Morgan hopes to raise $10,000 for The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Cardiac Center/Research.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will have a number of activities.Food and baked goods will be available for purchase. There will also be music, face painting, tricky trays, a bean bag tournament, community involvement and a special slide presentation of "Living with CHD Morgan's Journey."The Flying Aces Motorcycle Club is also hosting a motorcycle run benefiting Morgan's cause. Riders and their passengers can register at 9 a.m. at the clubhouse at 470 Rockport Road in Weatherly. The ride begins at 9:30 a.m. The cost is $15 for drivers, $5 for passengers. Participants will receive a $5 food voucher for the Morgan's Miracle Heart event.CHD is the number one birth defect affecting one in every 125 babies born in the United States each year.Morgan lives with CHD and is an inspiration to her family, friends and community. In her 16 years she has called The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia home on many life-saving occasions.
