With Mother's Day this Sunday, it's nice to see children enjoying time with their mother.
For Terry Smith of Lehighton, he is spending time with his 88-year-old mom, Beattie, in a different way.The pair has been shuffling, tossing and putting together as they compete in the 2014 Carbon County Senior Games. The Times News caught up with Terry and Beattie early Friday just as the miniature golf event at Heisler's Cloverleaf Dairy in Tamaqua was getting under way.Beattie, who has been competing for three of the last four years and has won many medals during the competitions, said she loves the games and is glad her son is joining her for the eight-day event.Terry agrees. He explained that his mother encouraged him to join last year and he won a gold medal in darts. This year so far, he took the bronze in the men's 60 to 64 bracket for bean bag toss. They both said that the games are fun and neither cares if they win a medal, just having time together and being out with friends is enough. So what does Terry have planned for this weekend to honor his mom?He said that he will be taking Beattie out to dinner.
