Lehighton man faces various drug charges

A Lehighton man faces drug charges after a vehicle stop in Bowmanstown.

According to an affidavit filed by Lehighton State Police at 6:16 p.m. on Aug. 13, troopers were patrolling Bowmanstown in the area of Ore Street near Fireline Road when they observed a light green Volkswagen Beetle driving in front of them with a loud muffler.

A traffic stop was initiated, and as troopers approached the vehicle, they observed the driver, identified as Charles Joseph Larrimore, 46, of East Lizard Creek Road, sweating profusely.

Officers also noticed he had a black pistol in a shoulder holster under his left arm and that his eyes were red and bloodshot and his speech was raspy and shaky.

Larrimore got out of the vehicle at the troopers’ requests and the pistol under his arm, as well as an additional loaded 9 mm gun were taken for the officers’ safety.

During the sobriety tests, troopers noticed what appeared to be drug residue on Larrimore’s nostril. He told police he had last used methamphetamine about 10 hours earlier, later changing that time frame to six to seven hours earlier.

He also admitted having two baggies of meth in a bag in the vehicle, but as officers retrieved the drugs, they also found a plastic container containing eight baggies of methamphetamine in different forms, as well as a wallet with additional drugs and $2,100 in cash.

Larrimore was taken into custody and faces various drug-related charges, including driving while under the influence of a controlled substance, as well as careless driving, noise control and not wearing a seat belt.

He was arraigned before District Judge William Kissner and sent to Carbon County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail, which was set at $100,000.

He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Kissner on Aug. 26.
