A New Ringgold man who led police on a wild chase last summer will serve state time.

Schuylkill County Judge Charles M. Miller sentenced Chad Belsak, 39, to 21 to 42 months in prison.Belsak pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, fleeing or eluding police and criminal mischief. He also pleaded to retail theft charges from two separate cases.Belsak on July 5 led state police from Schuylkill Haven, Reading and the Hamburg barracks, and local police from the Schuylkill Haven campus of Penn State University, the borough of Schuylkill Haven, and Orwigsburg, as well as an aviation unit, on the chase throughout southern Schuylkill County.The chase began at 12:23 p.m. on Route 61 when police tried to stop Belsak for traveling 66 mph in a 50 mph zone. Police said he fled at a high rate of speed, making numerous maneuvers in an attempt to flee. He sped through the Cressona Mall parking lot before traveling onto Route 183, forcing numerous vehicles off the roadway and passing numerous other vehicles while traveling in the wrong lane.Police said he also traveled onto property owned by the Beckville Gun Club, crashing through a fence, into a cornfield and down several privately owned driveways.He continued into Cressona, Schuylkill Haven, where he traveled recklessly on numerous streets and back roads, and then drove through numerous stop signs before traveling onto Route 61 into Deer Lake and passing vehicles on the right side by traveling off the roadway.During the pursuit, he repeatedly slammed on his brakes in an attempt to have the trooper rear-end him and stop the patrol car.Police said Belsak's 1998 Chevrolet 1500 pickup eventually rear-ended a pickup that didn't move out of his way. He attempted to force the truck out of his way before the trooper was able to box him in and forced him to stop.Belsak was taken into custody with the assistance of local police departments. He was found to be wanted by the Schuylkill County Adult Probation Office for a probation violation and was taken for a blood test after it was suspected he was under the influence of a controlled substance, then to jail.
