Mahanoy City woman facing custody charges

Kaitlyn Youmans, 22, of Mahanoy City, is facing charges of interfering with custody of children (a felony 3 offense) as a result of an incident that occurred on July 31 in the parking lot of McDonald’s, 9 Lincoln Drive, Hometown, Rush Township.

Township police said they were summoned there by the father of a 2-year-old girl who has both legal and physical custody of the child. He said Youmans walked away with the girl, placed her in her vehicle and left the scene.

Police said a review of records maintained by a Schuylkill County Court office indicates there is an order regarding this matter. Police said in June, a hearing was held by Judge James P. Goodman in Schuylkill County Juvenile Court, who issued an order that provided for the legal and physical custody of the child to be transferred to the father.

Police said an arrest warrant they received was executed with the assistance of the Mahanoy City Police Department and Youmans was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer and released on $25,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. Sept. 15.

Police said the child has been reunited with her father.
