A Berks County driver is facing charges following an incident that occurred on Aug. 7 about 3:47 a.m. in Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said Fred E. Perez, 32, of Reading, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu eastbound on Route 54 in Mahanoy Township, when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle crossed the center yellow line and continued onto the berm where it struck guide rail causing significant damage to the front end. Perez then fled the scene.

The vehicle was later located the same day in Mahanoy City. Perez, troopers said, admitted crashing and not notifying police.

He was charged with duty to given information and render aid.
