Palmerton Borough Manager John Kasten submitted a letter of resignation to the borough council after an eight-year tenure to accept a job in the private sector.

Kasten's career with the borough was highlighted by his efforts to find a solution for periodic flooding along the Aquashicola Creek and along Hazard Road in the community.He was instrumental in coordinating funding efforts for the victims and in pushing for improvements that would remedy the problem. Kasten's work also included resolving ongoing problems with a low, overhead railroad bridge on Delaware Avenue, as well as taking a leading role in solid waste problems on the borough and county levels.
