Mahoning tax preparer investigated

A Mahoning Township tax preparer is under investigation by township police after complaints were filed that he never filed clients' tax returns with the IRS.

Township police Chief Audie Mertz said that police were notified that Randy Bollinger, whose office is located on Ashtown Drive, had not filed returns of several clients."We are investigating the complaints, and no arrest has been made," Mertz said in a statement Friday night. "We will provide updated information when available."Mertz urged anyone who has had their taxes prepared by Bollinger to verify they were received by the IRS and also contact Mahoning Township police at 570-386-2241.On Friday, residents, clients and media found a handwritten note posted on Bollinger's office/residence door that stated, "Randy no longer lives here ... If you have a tax question contact the IRS."No additional details of the case have been released at this time.According to two articles published in the Times News, Discover Bank had filed an action against Bollinger for $4,443.89 last April, and in January, Bollinger had a judgment granted against him from November 2015 in the amount of $1,252.88, including an unpaid bill of $649.38, attorney's fees of $500 and a filing fee of $115.50.
