Jurors today heard a recorded police interview with defendant Caleb Barnes, admitting that he killed Cheryl Silvonek in the early hours of March 15, 2015.
But during the interview that was played in Lehigh County Court Wednesday, on the third day of Barnes' murder trial, he maintained that it was a spur of the moment reaction.
Prosecutors are seeking a first-degree murder conviction against Barnes for the slaying of Cheryl Silvonek, a Jim Thorpe native.
They say that Barnes, then 20, and his girlfriend Jamie Silvonek, then 14, planned to kill Cheryl Silvonek because she disapproved of their relationship.
Silvonek's daughter Jamie has already pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and conspiracy charges.
Wednesday morning, jurors heard from the doctor who conducted the autopsy on Cheryl Silvonek.
Cheryl Silvonek's mother, a Jim Thorpe resident, also took the stand.
