Rain fell across the area this weekend, sometimes at a furious rate, but more is needed to address the drought conditions.

The amount of precipitation depended on the location, according to Paul Walker, a senior meteorologist with AccuWeather."It varied greatly across the county, anywhere from three-quarters to 2 inches," Walker said. "Whenever rain comes down so fast, it runs off into the streams and storm gutters and off the rivers."Walker said a couple of isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected later this afternoon and into the early evening hours."Not everybody's going to get it," he said. "There is a humid air mass, so there's going to be some downpours with them."Walker said less activity is expected Tuesday, though there may be a stray shower.A drier air mass is expected to come into the region, with Wednesday through Friday figuring to be primarily rain-free days, he said.While the precipitation has been of a help, it wasn't enough to fully address the current drought conditions, Walker said."It's a little help, every little bit helps," he said. "It certainly helps out, but to get more consistent precipitation falling across the area."Typically in August, Walker said we look to get around 3½ inches of rain.
