Community meal

A free community meal will be served from 5-6:30 p.m., Tuesday at St. John's United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton. You are invited to join together for the last meal of the summer. The menu will be ham, string beans, and potatoes, applesauce, rolls, and homemade chocolate desserts.They received donations in the amount of $191 at last month's meal.Book ClubThe Book Club which meets at St. John's UCC, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton will meet on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. The book they will be discussing will be "Keep Quiet" by Lisa Scottolline. Anyone wishing to join the club is invited to attend.Historical SocietyThe Palmerton Area Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Palmerton Area Library. The speaker will be Barbara Stemler Weimann, who will talk about the 1757 Indian raid on Boyer family. The public is invited to attend without cost or obligation.St. John's UCCSt. John's United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton will hold Worship services at 10 a.m. Sept. 13. During the service will be a "Blessing of Backpacks." Please inform any students and/or teachers that you know. All are welcome to take part in this service.If there are any students or teachers who are unable to participate, a representation of their new school year (example a backpack, lunchbox, briefcase, notebook, etc.) may be presented for a blessing by a family member or friend.Palmerton VFWThe Palmerton Memorial Post 7134 will meet at 7 p.m., Sept. 14. The meeting will take place at the VFW Post, 2020 Forest Inn Road, Palmerton. The group welcomes veterans to join them. They meet the second Monday of each month.Palmerton American LegionPalmerton American Legion Post 269 will meet at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 28 at the VFW Post, 2020 Forest Inn Road, Palmerton. The group meets the fourth Monday of each month. Call Ed Moyer at 610-504-6680 for information.Community FestivalThere will not be bingo at the Palmerton Community Festival. It was accidentally put in a local news gazette there would be. Unfortunately the festival committee has been unable to find a club or organization willing to organize a bingo tent. Any club or organization that may be interested perhaps for next year may call Sue Arner for information at 610-826-7515 or speak to Sue or any committee member at the festival.
