Nesquehoning has received payment for one of four rig crashes in the borough over the last year.

On Wednesday, borough solicitor Robert Yurchak told council that a settlement was reached in the case against Kritsak Trucking of Allentown.At its April meeting, council voted to sue the company for payment of expenses incurred on Nov. 5, by emergency responders and the borough after one of its drivers lost control of a tractor-trailer while attempting to descend Route 93 into Nesquehoning and barreled through the routes 93-209 intersection.As the driver tried to turn onto Route 209, he rolled the rig and its contents of steel beams onto the property of Dennis Creitz, taking out his fence and damaging the highway.As a result, the borough charged Kritsak $3,450 for the expenses incurred, but was initially only offered just more than $1,000 in payment from the trucking company's insurance carrier National Casualty Co.Yurchak said that the borough never had to go to a hearing on the matter before the district judge and Kritsak agreed to pay the $3,450, which the borough received last week.Bills for expenses for the last three rig crashes in the borough, which occurred March 31, April 1 and 2, have just been sent out to the companies that caused the incidents.
