Main Street Committee to meet tonight to assist businesses

Lehighton hopes to devise ways to help businesses as they slowly try to rebound from the coronavirus pandemic.

Hence, the Lehighton Main Street Steering Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Lehighton Outdoor Center.

Borough Manager Nicole Beckett explained the intent of tonight’s meeting, which she said will mark the first time the committee has met in person since February.

“We are hoping to find ways to assist the businesses in the Green Phase and in the aftermath of the COVID-19 closures,” Beckett said. “We are seeking input from businesses.”

Beckett, who also serves as chairwoman of the Main Street Steering Committee, noted that the committee has met via Zoom in May and earlier this month.

“We feel it is very important to receive input and assist however the businesses need us,” she said. “The focus of the Main Street Steering Committee is the downtown district; however, we will promote all Lehighton businesses.”

Beckett has stated the mission of the Main Street Steering Committee is to “build pride and preservation in the Lehighton Downtown Business District.”

Subcommittees of the Main Street Steering Committee revolve around each area of the Four Point Approach: Economic Vitality, Design, Promotion and Organization.

Beckett, along with Carbon Chamber & Economic Development Director Kathy Henderson, began the research in 2013 that makes up the backbone of the program.
