East Penn supervisors hear road problems

East Penn Township's residents attended Tuesday night's board of supervisors meeting with questions about road repair and when to expect it.

Susan Frey stood before the board to make her case about Friendship Road needing a serious fix.According to Frey, at the street level, where about five mailboxes are located along with a bus stop, Friendship Road has a deep divot where water gets trapped. She told the board it had been fixed in the 70s but stormwater runoff has caused a gully. The problem is in the winter when the water freezes, turning the area into a thick sheet of ice."I'm not sure where the runoff comes from but it gets really icy in the winter. Old folks live in that area and kids get on and off the bus there and had fallen three times last winter," she said."Whose responsibility is it?" Frey asked.Solicitor James Nanovic asked the board "when was the last time we worked on the road?""A neighbor said in the 70s," Frey said."We can have a road crew cut the shoulder so water can flow," Supervisor Dean Kercsmar said. The motion passed unanimously by the board. The next road of concern was Stone Mountain Road.Linda Daubenspeck asked when the road was to be fixed, stating "It was supposed to be fixed this year; you can't drive a straight line on it, it's getting ridiculous."Cunfer told her it was on the agenda.Duane Eiden asked for a timeline on the repairs, but did not receive an answer from the board. The board spoke about the more recent repairs made to Troxell and Nothstein roads and made a motion to top coat Troxell Road and top coat over the patch repairs to Nothstein Road.Pinoak and Pine Wood roads were also added to the repair list for a new base and top coat overlay. The board also made a motion to patch Stone Mountain, Hollow and Highpoint roads as needed. The estimated cost of all road repairs including the Friendship Road re-profile will be an estimated $201,454.A timeline for repairs was not provided at the meeting.
