Proposed medical facility gets conditional approval

A proposed medical facility in Lehighton received conditional plan approval for its subdivision plan but will need to come before Carbon County Planning Commission again for its land development plan.

The planning commission reviewed Blakeslee Commons LLC's proposed subdivision/lot line revision plan for two lots at the intersection of Bridge Street and Ninth Street in Lehighton. The plans call for subdividing a 0.8160-acre lot into 0.1632- and 0.6528-acre lots and combining the 0.1632-acre lot with a 9.4261-acre lot to create a new 9.5893-acre plot.Ivan O. Meixell Jr., county planner, said that the plan as submitted does not conform to final plan requirements of Lehighton Borough's subdivision ordinance and added that to receive plan approval, a waiver should be requested by the developer for contours, the plan certification must be completed and the required ownership certifications need to be signed and properly notarized. Before the vote, Meixell discussed the project with Joseph Bennett, who was there for the project.Meixell said that Bennett questioned why the county couldn't approve both the subdivision plan and the land development plan at the same time. The land development plan was not listed on the meeting agenda.Meixell said, as he did in the August land development review of the project, which calls for the construction of a 21,029-square-foot building on site, that the developer has not yet acquired the land that is to be used. The project has been in the works since 2014.In December 2014, Lehighton's zoning hearing board granted a special exception for the project and attached two conditions that must be met before the plan can move forward, including a complete plan must go before the borough's planning commission and the existing building on the property must be demolished and removed.Other businessThe Carbon County Planning Commission also acted on three additional projects.• Recommended plan approval for Rodney J. Miller's proposal for a subdivision/lot line revision at the intersection of Creekside Manor Drive and Red Hill Road in Franklin Township. The plan calls for subdividing 17.259 acres of land, owned by Miller, into a 15.12-acre lot and a 2.139-acre lot. The 2.139-acre lot would then be combined with 18.402 acres, owned by Creekside Manor Mobile Home Park to create a 20.541-acre lot.• Tresckow Fire Company No. 1 received plan approval for a proposed subdivision at 26 E. Oak St., Banks Township. The plan calls for subdividing a .516-acre lot into two lots.• Split Rock in the Poconos received conditional plan rejection for a proposed lot line revision at 19 Maplewood Drive, Kidder Township. The plan calls for combining two lots to create a new lot.
