The Tamaqua Area Faith and Fellowship Network is offering parents of young children the opportunity to enjoy a kid-free night out. The event will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 20 at Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, 223 E. Broad St. in Tamaqua.Child care will be provided for infants to children through sixth grade. All child care providers will have the proper clearances.The evening will include pizza, snacks, games and drinks.To register a child, or for more information, call 570-449-4587.Board of HealthThe Tamaqua Board of Health met Feb. 3 at the Tamaqua Municipal Building with Earl Boettger, Rosemarie Noftz, Christine Zizelmann R.N., Shirley Becker and health enforcement officer Matthew Myers in attendance.Myers reported issuing 52 health licenses for 2016. He also received and adjusted 16 complaints: 15 for trash; one for animal waste. A total of 11 properties were condemned as unfit for human habitation.There were no cases of reportable diseases for January.Kindergarten registrationRegistration for kindergarten classes in the Tamaqua Area School District for the school year 2016-2017 will be held March 14, 15 and 16 at the Tamaqua Elementary School and March 17 at the West Penn Elementary School. Registration hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at both schools.Registration packets are available at the district's elementary schools and at the Tamaqua Area School District website,

www.tamaqua.K12.pa.us.Children in the Tamaqua Area School District who will reach the age of 5 before Sept. 1, 2016, are eligible to attend kindergarten classes.To schedule an appointment, call 570-668-3306 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and from 1-3 p.m.Proof of residency, health records, original birth certificates and original Social Security cards will be required.Children will be evaluated by a classroom teacher, nurse and speech therapist.Honor rollThe name of Caroline Balogach was missing from the list of Tamaqua Area Middle School students earning honor roll status for the second marking period. She is a seventh-grade student.Tamaqua seniorsThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens met Feb. 4 with 65 members and one guest, Shirley Adamas, in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session.Ruthann Feane provided the invocation "A Fresh New Day." The meeting included the installation of a new treasurer, Norma Lee Burke. Joan Wall was added to the sick list.Members are reminded to bring brown bag lunches during the winter months.The next meeting will be held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 11, at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St. The group is open to anyone 55 or older and the YMCA is handicap accessible.St. John LutheranThe Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at this Sunday's 9:15 a.m. worship service in St. John's Lutheran Church.
