Schuylkill renews lease agreements
Schuylkill County commissioners on Wednesday renewed three five-year lease agreements for county offices in Mahanoy City and Pottsville. The leases run from Sept. 1, 2015, through Aug. 31, 2020.
The first is for the Office of Senior Services for office space and areas for senior service activities, the Mahanoy City Senior Resource Center, at 138 W. Center St., Mahanoy City.The five-year lease is for 6,250 square feet for $4,649, or $8.93 per square foot, per month.The second is between the OSS and the ReDCo Group to sublease a portion of the Mahanoy City Senior Resource Center.The ReDCo Group will be subleasing 2,197 square feet at a cost of $1,634, or $8.93 per square foot, per month.The third, between the county and Seider's Hill Inc. for 7,490 square feet of office space at 1206 Agricultural Drive, Pottsville, for the Conservation District and the Agricultural Extension for $8,262 per month.The Conservation District occupies 2,690 square feet for $2,967. The Agricultural Extension occupies 4,800 square feet for $5,294.In other matters, commissioner George F. Halcovage Jr. said he is concerned that Luzerne County has yet to sign its agreement as half of the Luzerne/Schuylkill Workforce Investment Board, or appoint board members."We have signed our part. I may ask at some point that we send a letter to Luzerne County council urging them to do that. We don't want any loss of funding that may be helping Career Links and the workforce," he said.The board is a private, nonprofit entity that "engages business, industry, education, economic development and community organizations to participate with the public workforce system to identify workforce challenges and develop strategies and solutions to address those challenges," according to its website.In a related matter, commissioners reappointed several people to serve on the board from July 1 through Jan. 30, 2019.They are Chris Dende of Mrs. T's Pierogies, Shenandoah; Karen Kenderdine of First National Bank Wealth Management, Pottsville; Frank Koller of SAGA Industrial Extrusions, Cressona;John Powers Jr. of ASH/TEC Inc., Hegins; David L. Schultz of Michael Foods Inc./Papetti's/Hygrade Egg Products, Klingerstown; Paul Straka of Service Access Management, Reading; and Kris Verba of Legman's, Pottsville.Commissioners also reappointed Karl Kramer of Brookside Court Properties, Schuylkill Haven; Diane M. Niederriter of the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29, Mar Lin; Robert Carl of the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce, Pottsville; Darlene Robbins of the NEPA Manufacturers & Employers Association, Pottsville; and Frank Zukas of the Schuylkill Economic Development Corp., Pottsville, to the board from July 1 through June 30, 2019.
