Fishing allowed, playground remains closed at Franklin park

Fishing is allowed, but the playground at a Franklin Township park remains closed.

Township secretary Brenda Neeb said at a recent board of supervisors meeting that the township had been fielding concerns about Phifer Ice Dam Park.

Township police Chief Jason Doll then weighed in on the situation.

“My opinion, it’s hard for me to (dictate) which activities are OK and which aren’t,” Doll said.

Further, Doll said he believes fishing is a good thing for people’s state of mental health to be able to get out to do.

Neeb asked whether the township needs to post signs around the park.

Township solicitor Tom Nanovic said that while he wasn’t aware if the township has to have signs posted, he thinks doing so would be a great idea, nonetheless.

Ultimately, it was agreed that fishing is allowed, but that the playground will remain closed until further notice.
