Whether you're interested in the fine or the performing arts, the Tamaqua Community Art Center has something of interest planned for May.

You can indulge your inner artist with classes in various mediums, including chalk, acrylics and watercolors (no experience needed); customize your garden by creating whimsical garden picks, a gnome or steppingstones; create your own pottery; take music lessons; listen to great music; or see a quality theatrical production without having to travel to New York City.For the budding artist, there are paint and sip sessions scheduled for May 17 and May 18; chalk and chew classes on May 10 and May 24; and watercolor painting on May 19. Even the younger crowd can participate as there are kid's art/painting sessions on May 19 and May 21.The newly revamped Clay Works Studio has classes every Monday, Thursday and Saturday for those interested in pottery and ceramics. In addition, the studio is offering special classes in creating garden picks and the ever popular garden gnome. The garden pick classes will be held on May 9 and May 16, while you can create and decorate your own gnome on May 19.Mosaic artist Kim East offers classes at 6 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Current projects include creating individual garden steppingstones.The

L.O.L writers' group meets at 6 p.m. every Thursday and the Bucket List Book Club meets at 7 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month.Yarn classes are held at 9 a.m. Saturdays, while yoga classes are held at 6 p.m. Mondays.Music abounds during May, when the Coal Cracker Chorus rehearses at 7:30 p.m. Mondays; harmonica lessons are held Wednesdays at noon; and guitar lessons are held at 9 a.m. Saturdays. that's in addition to scheduled concerts, which includes Settled Arrows, a concert by Andrew Mars at 7

C.A.R.E.S.And let's not forget the theater. "Cinderella Retold as a Musical Play" is currently in rehearsal and will be presented at 7 p.m. May 20 and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. May 21. The production is under the direction of Jonathan Rodgers-Blackwell and is being presented by the Tamaqua Area Community Theatre.As soon as one production takes its curtain call, the theater group will begin preparing for its next show. Rehearsals for "Gypsy" will be held from 6-8 p.m. May 22 and from 6-9 p.m. May 23. Speaking, singing and dancing roles will be available for those 6 and over.
