Rehabilitation work could be in store for Lehighton's Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard.

On a unanimous vote Monday, borough council agreed to have the borough engineer put project specifications together for Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard.Borough Manager Nicole Beckett said the work was estimated to cost about $240,000.Beckett said the money would come from the borough's capital reserve account.Councilman Scott Rehrig also voiced his displeasure with the north and south ends, where he said he's noted big discrepancies."It's a total disgrace," Rehrig said. "I think it's time we clean it up."Councilwoman Helen Torok added, "They are despicable.""We're not a community subject to slumlords," Rehrig said, adding that the borough doesn't want to give off that impression.Earlier in the meeting, Rehrig suggested that the borough look to take down the building at 209 N. First St.However, borough solicitor Jim Nanovic said that the borough does not own the property, and would have to acquire it first before it could look to do so.
