A woman who drove the getaway car in two bank robberies, including one in the Tamaqua area, was sentenced to a prison term in federal court last week.
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that Stephanie Ann Ware, 27, of Scranton, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Robert D. Mariani in federal court to 57 months in jail.In December 2015, she pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the robbery of two banks by acting as a getaway driver. Ware admitted to charges that she aided Lee Sokalsky in the robberies of the NBT Bank in Dickson City, on July 25, 2014, and the Mauch Chunk Trust Bank, Rush Township, on Aug. 26, 2014.Sokalsky was previously indicted by a federal grand jury and is awaiting trial.The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the Hazleton, Rush Township, Dickson City, and Scranton police departments. Prosecution is assigned to Assistant U.S. Attorney John Gurganus.
