Robert Eugene Barry, 76, of Donaldson, Tremont Township, who had been found guilty by a jury last September of 49 sexual related offenses, was sentenced Monday by President Judge William E. Baldwin to serve nine to 18 years in a state correctional facility.

The sentence had been deferred as the judge had requested an evaluation be made by the Pennsylvania Sex Offenders Association Board to determine if Barry is a sexually violent predator and the report was positive.Barry received consecutive sentences of three years to six years on charges of criminal attempt to commit involuntary deviate sexual act and on two counts of aggravated indecent assault without consent on a person under the age of 13 years. On numerous charges of indecent assault, indecent exposure and corruption of minor he received concurrent sentences.The charges were brought by Trooper Mary Rogers and occurred between Jan. 1, 1990, and Dec. 31, 1995.Barry, who walked into the courtroom to hear his sentence, took ill and an ambulance was called to transport him to a state correctional facility. Deputies in a sheriff's vehicle escorted the ambulance to its destination.30 daysArgelys Contreras, 27, of 2 S. Fourth St., West Hazleton, pleaded guilty to driving while his operating privileges were suspended and was sentenced by Judge Charles M. Miller to serve 30 days in the county prison with the sentence to begin on Monday, Jan. 23, at 10 a.m. He also must pay a fine of $1,000 and court costs, a $50 fee to the Criminal Justice Enhancement Account and a $100 to the Substance Abuse Educational Fund.Contreras was cited by West Mahanoy Township Chief Shawn Tray, last Sept. 24 when stopped along SR924.
