Hearing continued for man charged with raping girl

A Lackawanna County man facing 104 counts regarding sexual assault of a small child continued a preliminary hearing that was scheduled on Wednesday until 3:15 p.m. on April 13.

James Matthew Acevedo-Schneider, 25, is in Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $150,000 monetary bail.

Acevedo-Schneider is accused of sexually abusing a girl beginning when she was age 5 until she was age 15. Some of the sexual assaults occurred in Jim Thorpe, according to police.

He faces numerous counts of rape, aggravated indecent assault and indecent exposure.

The hearing was scheduled before District Judge John D. Whitesell in Jim Thorpe.

The arresting officer is officer Lee Joseph Marzen of the Jim Thorpe Police Department.

Acevedo-Schneider was arrested on Feb. 11 by Jim Thorpe police at the State Correctional Institute in Waymart, where he was serving time for other offenses.
