Challenge benefits 5-year-old

The challenge was a 3-mile trek with eight obstacle stations scattered throughout Country Junction, and no one failed.

The Fit or Fail Challenge held Saturday started at 7:30 a.m. and included such challenges as a crab walk track and hay bale throw. After each obstacle, the runners collected a washer to signal a challenge completed.Over 80 people registered for the event which raised funds for Justin's Fight. Justin Seiler of Palmerton is a 5-year-old boy with a DIPG malignant brain tumor. DIPG, or Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, is a condition that affects children primarily, attacking the pons portion of the brainstem, rendering nervous system function impossible. The main treatments for this affliction are clinical trials and not covered by insurance. All costs come out of pocket for Justin's family.Jacob Martinez of Adventure Racing teamed up with Kerri Jahelka, owner of Dedicated Fitness, to organize the fundraiser. Over 30 people volunteered to help with the event, most who work at Dedicated Fitness in Palmerton.Rocco Seiler, Justin's uncle, was armed with a megaphone and yelled encouragement to the runners of the challenge."I can't thank everybody enough," he said.Martinez, 14, was on hand as a volunteer for the event. He was quick to give most of the credit to Jahelka, "I gave her the idea and she ran with it," he said. This is the first of three races to be held for Justin's Fight. The next race will be a zombie run on Sept. 19 at Country Junction, and the third will be a Christmas run sometime in December.
