A project to replace a section roof at Tamaqua High School is on schedule, but it will keep the school's indoor pool out of commission until October, according to school district officials.
At Tuesday's school board meeting, Tamaqua's Chief Operations Officer Ken Dunkelberger updated board members on the project.Dunkelberger said the indoor pool would be ready in time for the swimming and diving season. The roof project is expected to be wrapped up in 4-6 weeks, but Dunkelberger said the natatorium will remain closed for a few additional days to clean and fill the pool. And while equipment to remove the old roof has currently closed one of the driveways alongside the middle/high school campus, Dunkelberger said that they would be clear by the time school opens on Monday. The roof on the 50-year-old pool has never been replaced, Dunkelberger said. The project is expected to cost $425,000 when it is completed. The board also voted to approve a stipend for low-income families to purchase school uniforms. The $25 stipend will be available to families whose household income is less than 130 percent of the poverty line.
