Silk mill project on hold

After almost a year of jumping through Walnutport Borough zoning ordinance hoops, CRAJ LLC, has decided not to purchase the old silk mill located on Washington Street.

The first zoning hearing was held in September 2015 to request variances in the zoning district from commercial to light residential.CRAJ's plan was to buy up the three connected buildings, demolish the 324 address buildings to create a 10-space parking lot for the remaining 326 building, which would be converted to an apartment complex. The zoning board granted the variances in October with the borough council appealing the discussion shortly after.During Thursday night's borough meeting Walnutport solicitor Michael Corriere informed the board CRAJ did not actually purchase the property, therefore all variances granted are void."The ordinances just goes back to the way it was before," Corriere said. The council gave its preliminary approval for the remodeling plans for Dunkin' Donuts located on the Fast Fill property. The canal will also receive updates at Lock 24 when it will under go reconstruction beginning the week of June 20.
