Lehighton Borough Council, on an 8-0 vote Monday with Councilman Joe Flickinger absent, took the following action:

• Approved Phase 1 of the Joseph Bennett Improvement Agreement for the Route 443 Project.

• Approved a resolution establishing the current base purchased power cost for the purchased power cost adjustment. Borough Manager Nicole Beckett said this takes them to 58.5 cents, bringing the borough closer to the actual power cost. She said council will be adjusting this incrementally about two more times to bring the borough where it needs to be.

• Approved a resolution extending the real property tax discount period and waiving penalties in accordance with Act 15 of 2020. Beckett said the motion was to be consistent with Carbon County Commissioners. She added that the borough won’t be doing a tax discount, but rather waiving the penalties.

• Approved the ratification of COVID-19 “Task Force” actions since April 6.
