Lehighton can have graduate motorcade

Lehighton Area School District can have a graduate motorcade.

On an 8-0 vote Monday, Lehighton Borough Council approved the request from the school district.

Councilman Ryan Saunders said they would put six graduates per bus with a firetruck or police car escort to make some noise.

School district buses will leave the school grounds between 6 and 6:30 p.m. on June 5 as part of the replacement for the traditional graduation ceremony.

Borough fire Chief Pat Mriss said the fire department recently went to St. Luke’s Health Network for the nurses, doctors and medical staff.

Mriss said in that particular instance, they supplied one driver per vehicle, and that it worked well.
