Defendants sentenced in Carbon court

Defendants entering pleas in Carbon County Court before Judge Joseph J. Matika included:

Michael Joseph Bodnar, 29, of Hazleton, pleaded to one count of false identification to law enforcement.He was arrested on April 12, 2014, following a vehicle stop by state police at Hazleton along Chestnut Street in Banks Township. Bodnar was a passenger in the vehicle, and when asked for ID from the troopers, he gave a false name. Matika placed him on probation for a year.Nicholas George McKelvey, 54, of Albrightsville, pleaded to one count of persistent disorderly conduct. In a plea bargain, a charge of terroristic threats was dropped.Kidder Township police arrested McKelvey on April 3 when they responded to the Madison Inn, along Route 534, for a intoxicated person refusing to leave.Officers encountered McKelvey, who they said was visibly intoxicated. While being arrested he made threats to the officers, the report stated.McKelvey said he was going through personal and family problems at the time.Matika placed him on probation for a year and ordered he get a D&A evaluation, and stay out of the Madison Inn. The sentence runs concurrent with a probation term he is serving in Monroe County for driving under the influence.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
