The sixth annual "Lehighton Community Education and Safety" night at Baer Memorial Pool will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Free to the public, the event includes swimming, food, and giveaways from local businesses and organizations."This year, we're expecting the most participation from agencies and hopefully a lot of people come out to join us," Suzanne Howland, principal of East Penn Elementary and Franklin Elementary schools said. "It's a night of fun but the goal is also to introduce people to some of these organizations they may have never even heard of before. Anytime you can do that, it's a good thing."Groups scheduled to attend include Title I Math & Reading, Family Promise, the Attorney General's Office Jack and Jill, Lehighton Borough Police, Carbon County Right from the Start, Pennsylvania State Police, Archery Addictions, Carbon County Sheriff's Department, Zoo Health Club, Lehighton/Franklin Fire Departments, Turn to Us, Penn's Peak Radio, Lehighton school psychologists, Philadelphia 76ers, Lehighton Area Booster Club, CLIU 21, Bo Tkach Foundation, Pyramid Performance Center, Geisinger Health, St. Matthew's Preschool, Jack n Jill Preschool, Mountain Karate Academy, TNT Studio of Dance, Hershey Kissmobile, Educator First Financial, SHINE Program, 4-H/Carbon County Fair, Carbon Monroe Pike MHMR, PA Treatment and Healing Center, Summer Wellness, MHMR Early Intervention, Baltimore Life and Northeast Kayak.Giveaways include a Kindle, gift baskets, math and reading supplies, Fot-o-Kid IDs, gift certificates and more.Hot dogs, snacks and drinks will be provided.Children in grades kindergarten through eighth grade must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
