A former Monroe County man facing attempted homicide and other charges has been arrested at his grandmother's house in Louisiana. Police say he stabbed his girlfriend's mother in the throat last June.

Shawn Fitzgerald, 24, was charged on June 26, 2015 by Det. Joseph Coddington of the Monroe County District Attorney's Office with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, and terroristic threats.Fitzgerald had fled to Holden, Louisiana, where Coddington tracked him down and arrested him on Jan. 21.According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Coddington with District Judge Jolana Krawitz of Stroudsburg, here's what happened:Fitzgerald was living with his girlfriend and her mother in a house on Kunkletown Road in Saylorsburg in June 2015. At about 1 a.m. June 26, 2015, the victim and her daughter argued over chores, then Fitzgerald began arguing with the victim about money.The money, to pay bills, was in the victim's bedroom, and Fitzgerald had tried to take it, saying he wanted to use it "get his own place."The victim told police that Fitzgerald has a child in the custody of a child protective agency, and believed that he could get the child back if he had his own place to live.The victim told Fitzgerald he wasn't getting the money, and that made him angry.The victim stood in the hallway to block him from entering her bedroom. Fitzgerald screamed and yelled at her, telling her he was taking the money.When he came at her "in an aggressive manner," the victim raised a knife she had in a holder at her side.Fitzgerald stopped, then began yelling at her again. She began to put the knife back into the holder, believing he was calming down.That's when he grabbed the knife and held it to her throat. He told her several times he would kill her.The victim tried to fight back and get the knife away from her throat, but Fitzgerald put his other hand on the knife and pushed it, cutting her throat.She fell to the floor, and her daughter, who saw what happened, took the knife away from Fitzgerald.The victim said she could feel a large amount of blood pouring from her throat.Fitzgerald, stood over the victim and said, "She's not dead yet," and began to choke her, one of his thumbs pushing inside the cut. The victim said she tried to fight back, and her daughter helped pull Fitzgerald off her.Her daughter and Fitzgerald took her to Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg, where she required several stitches to close the wound.Coddington was able to track Fitzgerald to Holden, Louisiana, where he was arrested on Thursday by Livingston Parish Sheriff Deputies in the front yard of his grandmother's house.He was taken before a Livingston Parish judge for an extradition hearing.Fitzgerald refused to sign the extradition papers. The Monroe County District Attorney's Office will be applying for a governor's warrant to bring Fitzgerald back to Pennsylvania to answer to the charges.An extradition warrant from the governor is necessary to extradite an uncooperative out of state fugitive.
