Monroe Career and Technical Institute is proposing a slight increase for its four sending school districts in its 2016-17 budget, which was unveiled to the Pleasant Valley School District board of education Thursday night.

The actual amount each district pays, however, is going to depend on subsidy amounts from the state.MCTI's has proposed a $9.3 million budget, of which Pleasant Valley would pay $2.5 million.Should the state subsidize MCTI at the same amount as it did in 2015-16, the total would drop to $2.3 million."We use a four-year rolling average of the average daily membership from each of our sending districts to determine the funding formula," said Diane Serfass, MCTI business manager.Pocono Mountain currently contributes the largest percentage to MCTI, followed by Pleasant Valley, East Stroudsburg and Stroudsburg.The Public School Employees Retirement system rate will be at 30.3 percent of salary."We were, however, able to keep our health care costs flat," Serfass said.Pleasant Valley's total contribution in the 2015-16 MCTI budget is listed as $2,499.152, making the current spending plan only a 2.75 percent increase for the district.Its share increased just over 12 percent from 2014-15 to 2015-16.Serfass said Pocono Mountain has unanimously accepted the budget, while the other three districts are still in the presentation phase.In other action Thursday night, Pleasant Valley's board.• Approved the hirings of George Balas, Michael Chiesa and Kelley Giardina, substitute custodians; Patricia Lattanzio, substitute paraprofessional associate; Robert Poli, substitute custodian/food service employee; Stacey Stephani, substitute math teacher; Alfred Chestnut, casual security officer; and Jennelle Billingsby, long-term mathematics specialist substitute.• Approved the retirement of Henry Snyder, custodian.• Approved a contract with Bosch Communications Systems for a $13,591 wireless intercom system in the new Pleasant Valley High School auditorium.• Approved a contract with Trane for $2,959 in services to be performed on the Pleasant Valley Elementary chiller.• Approved an amendment to the Growing Place lease to include recycling dumpsters at their sites.
