Police say a Monroe County woman was on a day-long drinking binge when, in separate incidents, she fired a handgun into two crowded buildings.

Mary Lou Check, 54, of Mount Pocono is accused of shooting incidents at two locations in Monroe County — a Burger King in East Stroudsburg, and the Cloud Crest Motel Apartments in Mount Pocono.Both occurred on the morning of Tuesday, June 14.Police said she also fought with police officers, and spit on them while in custody.Witnesses at the motel said that Check fired through the wall of a hotel room, after repeatedly banging on the door asking for someone to come outside. She also allegedly opened the victim’s gas cap and fired a bullet into the gas tank.After the first round of gunfire, she waited in her van until the man came out, and began shooting at him again until she ran out of ammunition.The victim, Charles Smith, told police that he saw bullets coming through the wall from outside the apartment and hid in its bathroom.Police reviewed surveillance video of the shooting and learned that Check had hidden the gun under a vehicle parked next to hers.Police arrested Check at the scene. She reportedly became belligerent, fighting with officers and spitting on them as they attempted to restrain her.According to police, prior to the attack, Check opened fire at another location in Monroe County, a Burger King in East Stroudsburg. She escaped before she could be apprehended.Check was arraigned on charges and sent to Monroe County Correctional Facility. Her bail was set at $1 million.
