Pastor Ken Edwards and others of Effort UMC are off to Zimbabwe on a mission trip, called a Trip of Hope. Those who are registered will get everything needed including painting lessons to paint two wineglasses, light refreshments or bring your own.The participation fee will benefit the future West End Regional Dog Park.Church picnicThe 127th annual Kunkletown picnic will be held Saturday in St. Matthew's UCC grove. Food stands open at 3 p.m.It will include an adult horseshoe contest, register by 3:30 p.m.; children's activities, including games at 4 p.m. followed by a kiddie cakewalk and fish pond; and a pie contest, register by 4:30 p.m. with judging at 5:30 p.m.There are no age or entry limits and prizes for each category including best crust.There will be a cakewalk at 6:30 p.m. and basket raffles as well as other activities.Communion servedSalem-St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kresgeville will visit the Getz Personal Care Home in Jonas on Sunday and offer a communion service to residents at 2 p.m.Jam sessionsEvery Monday, starting at noon, there will be an acoustical jam session in room 148 of the community center in Kunkletown. Musicians who want to jam with the group are asked to bring their instrument. People can also come by and listen. There is no charge for this event.Ross SupersThe Ross Township Board of Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. at the Ross Township municipal building on Anchorage Road in Saylorsburg.PVEN needsThe Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network distributes clothes and foods to the needy in the West End. It can use financial support as well as food and clothing. Canned and dry goodsare always acceptable. There is a current need for new underwear, socks, sneakers and toiletries. Needed baby items include: newborn diapers, newborn clothes, both boys and girls. Other items needed are baby shampoo, lotion and rattles.Donations may be delivered to the PVEN from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays. Other times by appointment. Many live in the West End.Serving as volunteer is a great way to help neighbors in need. For those who can help, contact the RSVP office at 570- 420-3747 as soon as possible. Meals on Wheels volunteers must have a reliable vehicle, a current Pennsylvania driver's license and carry a minimum of $100,000/$300,000 auto liability insurance.
