DUI suspected in Rt. 61 crash that injured 6

Six people were injured, including three children, in a three-vehicle crash in Schuylkill County at 3:30 p.m. Monday in which one driver is facing driving under the influence charges.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash occurred along Route 61, just north of the intersection with Tumbling Run Road, in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Bernard J. Schuck, 31, of Mahanoy City, was operating a 2008 Suzuki southbound when his vehicle crossed over the median and struck a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado truck, which was northbound. After impact, a 2005 Kia Sorento, also northbound, was struck by the Suzuki.

Troopers did not identify the drivers of the two other vehicles. Troopers said the Kia was occupied by the driver, a front seat passenger and three children, all of home were injured. Schuck sustained suspected serious injuries. Troopers also said they suspected him to be under the influence at the time of the crash and a DUI charge is pending blood test results.

All the injured were taken to Geisinger-St. Luke’s Hospital, North Manheim Township.

Route 61 just south of Pottsville is closed due to a serious crash in the northbound lanes just north of the intersection with Tumbling Run Road.
